Therapy for Folks with Anxiety
in-person and virtual in Virginia
Does it feel like your brain just won’t be quiet?
Maybe you had another sleepless night, replaying something awkward you said when you were hanging out with friends earlier that day. Perhaps you avoid going certain places because you know you’ll have to parallel park and you’d rather eat dirt. You may be struggling to shake the feeling that something bad is about to happen, or simply allowing yourself to relax and enjoy happy moments. What’s worse, is that you used to be able to do more but it seems like life keeps getting smaller and smaller because the worry has taken over. You find yourself frustrated and feeling ashamed wondering, why can’t I just get over it?
It doesn’t matter if you know what lies at the root of your anxiety or not, the important thing is that you are noticing its impact in your day to day life:
It feels like your brain never shuts off
Your relationships with partners, friends, and family are suffering
You avoid going places and doing things that you used to love
You have constant headaches, stomachaches, and other physical symptoms
I want to help you feel calm, connected, and in control.
Therapy for anxiety helps you better understand your brain and the accommodations that it needs to feel successful. It creates personalized coping strategies to help manage identified triggers.
It helps you tune-in and process the root causes of your anxiety which allows you to leave behind the worry.
It moves you through the shame of not being able to “get over it” and helps you regain self-compassion and empathy. This is a crucial step in recovering and healing from the mental and physical exhaustion of anxiety.

You deserve to feel at peace.

There is no standard answer for this! Some folks find that they only need a few sessions to kickstart their success. Others can spend 9 months, 12 months (or longer) diving in. There is no minimum or maximum requirement.

Our first few sessions will focus on background information to give me a sense of you and the world around you. We will also identify areas that you would like to tackle in therapy and overarching goals for our work together. For ongoing sessions, I always start with a check-in to make sure that I am prioritizing whatever is on your mind that day. I don’t ever want someone to leave a session feeling like they couldn’t bring something up because I was too heavily directing the conversation. Some sessions focus on processing feelings and self-exploration. Other sessions focus on identifying and navigating barriers.

A standard session is 50 minutes because that typically gives us enough time to tackle a manageable amount. We meet either weekly or every other week depending on your schedule and preference. I encourage folks to meet weekly for the first 4-6 sessions if possible as it allows us to establish and relationship and dive in faster.
